Conclusion and further work

The aim of this project was to analyze the ever-so-famous fictional universe of Avatar, specifically looking into the two animated series that have been aired on television. Avatar: The Last Airbender and Avatar: The Legend of Korra. We aimed to perform some linguistic analysis on the overall shows and also design an ontology which also caters to the undeniable connection to real life cultures, religions, philosophies, political beliefs, historical events etc.

This project can be taken even further by incorporating all the live action adaptations, the graphic novels, the animated movies that have been aired or will be airing in the near future. Using this ontology, more and more connections can be identified and added to the knowledge graph and answer competency questions accordingly.

The purpose of this project is to present our engagement in ontology design, text extraction and analysis on the Avatar universe, as an end-of-course project for the “Knowledge Representation and Extraction ” course of the Master's Degree in Digital Humanities and Digital Knowledge at the University of Bologna, under our professors Andrea Giovanni Nuzzolese and Aldo Gangemi. The different corpora contained in this website have been selected and extracted for this academic goal.
